The association Zenias Tiere e.V. in Thessaloniki is fighting to sustain its animal welfare project. The food supplies are depleted, and the animal rescuers are in urgent need of support. With the end of the tourist season, the suffering of homeless dogs has dramatically worsened. In Greece and other parts of Eastern Europe, stray dogs are often mistreated or abandoned as they hold little value. Thessaloniki is particularly affected as hotel and restaurant owners face problems with neglected street dogs. Zenias Tiere e.V. has already taken in over 100 Greek dogs, but the costs for neutering, veterinary visits, and food have significantly increased. The association receives no financial assistance from the city and struggles with limited resources. The construction of their own shelter or large-scale neutering projects are currently unthinkable until the food shortage is addressed.
